A perfect boat party starts with making the right catering choice

Contributing Writer Kayley

What makes a boat party so fascinating is being able to go out to sea, enjoy the breeze and sunshine with delicious food even if you don’t know how to swim, just kick back and enjoy.  Reservations for junk usually get very tight starting from June every year, If other types of equipment are needed, such as inflatable trampoline, inflatable slide, swimming rings, SUP, ocean pool, etc., an early arrangement is a must.  As far as food arrangement, just let the catering service take care of it.

Although I don’t have much experience with organizing boat parties, from my point of view, regardless if it is food or personal care products, such as sunscreen, shampoo, shower gel, etc.  It’s better not to over-prepare to prevent any possible waste.

Have party snack items be the focus

Boat parties can last for a whole day or even until at night, people tend to burn quite a bit of energy by playing various water sports.  Remember you are in the middle of the sea, if there is not enough food to serve, you might get hungry and won’t be able to stuff your stomach until ashore, need not say it is pretty embarrassing if you are the host.  However, over-ordering or having too many high carbohydrate items, such as rice and noodle dishes and cold dishes will easily cause gastrointestinal discomfort or have the belly sticking out from your summer outfit, I am sure you don’t want either of these situations to happen.

Given this, it is easier to control the food portion if you focus on having snack items, for example, Thai Chicken Satay Skewer, Chicken Wing, Truffle Wild Mushroom Vol-au-vent, and Thai Fish Cake with Sweet & Sour Sauce are good choices, not only they are delicious and also easy to eat, more importantly, in case of there are leftovers, you can pack them up  to enjoy at a later time.  On the contrary, when noodles or rice dishes get cold, they will not be as tasty, so it is wise to just place a minimum order of these types of items.  Alternatively, the mini burger or Hawaii Mini Pizza is also a good choice of carb source.

Keep yourself hydrated

With no questions asked, alcoholic drinks are the essential drinks of a boat party but do consider the needs of the nondrinkers and make sure to prepare enough water and/or juice to keep everyone hydrated, especially after all these water activities.

Choosing the right kind of dessert

Most junks have refrigerators, but they may not have enough capacity to store all the items you bring on board.  If you order desserts that require refrigeration, it is best to ask about the capacity of the refrigerator in advance. To calculate the portion, 1 piece per person is equitable.  I recommend Coconut & Red Bean Puddin or Chocolate & Almond Brownies with Passion Plant if you decided to order dessert. The red bean cake is pretty refreshing and the brownie can be kept at room temperature, this will free up some space for other items that required refrigeration.  Some of the catering companies also provide insulated cooler bags to keep the food at the right temperature, so don’t forget to ask for it.

Hassle-free party catering

Just pick the party set provided by your caterer if you have difficulty choosing, most sets usually include salad, appetizers, main dishes, vegetables, rice/noodles, and desserts. The good thing is you don’t have to worry about over-ordering since portion sizes can be ordered according to the number of people.

With the tips above, don’t sit back, hurry up and start planning for your next party at sea!
